I will knock down the Gates of the Netherworld,
I will smash the door posts, and leave the doors flat down,
and will let the dead go up to eat the living!
And the dead will outnumber the living!
From The Epic of Gilgamesh – Ishtar
It all ends here… Soon! Or does it? Welcome to this 2nd Edition Warhammer Campaign that is out to bring the apocalypse to the Empire zombie style. Not a spoiler but an element you’ll need to know if you want to play in this campaign.
The current Warhammer campaign grew out of a 1st Edition Warhammer epic (1987-1993) where a core group of six PC’s calling themselves the six-bladed doom cult saved the empire by completing the entire Enemy Within campaign and then some. Then we shelved the group for 13 years. In 2006, we converted the game to 2nd Edition, got the cult back together and STARTED the Paths of the Damned trilogy, ending with Spires of Altdorf . Then the PC’s went their separate ways. Solo adventures for some and a new campaign for others: Karak Azgal . It all came to an end in December 2009. Until now.
The Zombie Apocalypse has been around for years, but has certainly thrived in the post 9/11 world. So why not? Why not bring it to the Empire? On one hand, the problem of “campaign building” many characters desire is solved — if you live through this, you’ll be able to reshape the entire world. For me, as much as I feel at home in the Warhammer world, to borrow from Robert Kirkman, “In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living.” So, eventually, in a matter of months, Empire society will crumble under the heels of an epidemic of apocalyptic proportions. But for now…
The game will cover three separate scenarios: S1 – a city adventure, building off of a mutated “Terror In Talabheim;” S2 – A wilderness adventure (linking S3 to S1); and S3, a dungeon-crawl in the caverns of Karak-Azgal. You will play a character in one of these scenarios.
Each Scenario will use its own OOC (Out Of Character) forum where you can paste actions and dialogue threads for your character. The more detail the better – give several rounds worth of actions and intent. From these OOC threads I will build the adventure logs. Eventually as we get comfortable with this, others will be allowed to create adventure logs.
This will take a long time – but that is the point. This is an interlude between F2F (face to face) gaming. When time allows for F2F gaming, I will paste adventure summaries in the log, thus between this PbP (play by post) game and F2F we should be able to create a spectacular record of adventure.
Feel free to make wiki-posts for any “red” words I can’t get to promptly. Add to your character page and create items as you see fit. Those of you new to Obsidian Portal will find a dice roller at the top to the left of the blog tag. I will often do much of the rolling, but sometimes you will cast the luck of the dice.
One last thing. When 2nd Person is evoked in the adventure log (You walk into a room…) it applies to your character and the party as a whole. After a post ends that evokes 2nd Person, it is your time to respond in the OOC forum for your scenario.
Grab an axe, a zombie survival guide, and be ready to roll.
